Abstract

Ecological damage on a local scale impacts the global environment. In the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 extreme climate change occurred which resulted in huge losses for all living things. Global warming is an obligation of all humankind. There needs to be awareness and responsibility to form an ecological education system. The urgency of ecological education is part of the involvement of students in contributing to saving the earth. This study aims to determine the understanding of Manado State Christian Religion Institute (IAKN) students on ecology, through the ecology curriculum in each study program, and practice of bringing tumblers and social action to reduce plastic waste. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to ecological studies. The data used are primary data through observation and in-depth interviews with four IAKN Manado students. The secondary data used are journals, books and the internet. The results of this study are as follows: Ecological education for IAKN Manado students needs to be developed and become part of the process of protecting nature as a friend, in addition to being supported from oneself, economic, social and cultural factors play a role in preserving nature.
