4 pagesDate: January 6, 2025

Abstract

The necessity for sustainable practices in tourism is being driven by the need to address environmental challenges. This study examines the complex interplay of emotional, social, and situational factors that shape tourists' sustainable behaviours, employing a systematic literature review. The findings reveal the influence of eco-guilt, social norms, and situational constraints, such as the availability and affordability of green options, on the formation of pro-environmental actions. Methodological shortcomings, including the use of self-reported data and a lack of cultural diversity, highlight the necessity for more robust research designs. The proposed conceptual framework integrates these factors to enhance theoretical understanding and provide practical strategies for the tourism industry. This work contributes to the advancement of sustainability research and equips practitioners with actionable insights for fostering responsible tourism. Future research directions include longitudinal studies and experiments to validate and expand on the identified dynamics.
