Comparative Study of CFD Software for Numerical Simulation of Multiphase Flows in Secondary Metallurgy

EasyChair Preprint no. 8589

6 pagesDate: August 3, 2022

Abstract

In the present work a comparison of two commercial code, close and open source software was made. The numerical simulation of a multiphase flow comprising water-oil-air of a physical model of a ladle furnace used in secondary refining of steel was carried out. The results of the simulations where compared and validated by taking photograms of the oil aperture in the physical model. From the results it was found that the fluid dynamic structure for both commercial codes is very similar however the structure of the oil aperture as well as the percentage area of exposed water differs from one commercial code to the other.

Keyphrases: CFD, Fluent, multiphase flow, open source, OpenFOAM
