Reduction of Defects in the Assembly Line of an Automotive Electrical Harness Company with the Application of Lean Manufacturing Tools

EasyChair Preprint no. 8952

9 pagesDate: October 3, 2022

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to reduce the quality defects of the assembly line that forms the customer-specific harness (Esparza, 2021), the current state of the production line is determined with Lean analysis tools: CTQ diagram (parameters Critical Quality Standards), SIPOC (Supplier Inputs Process Outputs Customers) diagram and VSM (value flow graph), which together with the process metrics, show a real condition of the state of the line. We proceed to analyze the root cause of the defects and based on the results; the results are determined are the techniques applied to solve the causes that generate the defects (Tejeda, 2011). The Lean way to solve the defects they send includes the following tools: Andon (LUP), Work Instructions, Skills Matrix, Andon (Dashboard), Talent Development for practical training and Poka Yoke with contact sensors for more routing. visual. The average number of defects  (Ricárdez, 2022) in the quality graphics before the improvements was 178 and with the implementation of the manufacturing tools, it is 146 out of 2348 pieces produced weekly, demonstrating a significant reduction in internal quality defects in the line of 17.98%.
