Numerical Modeling of the Compression of a Hexagonal and Star Structure

Abstract

The performance of aeronautical structures has been improved over the years by optimizing their lightness, strength, excellent energy absorption and in-plane compression stiffness. This work consists in modeling hexagonal and star honeycomb structures using Abaqus finite element software to obtain a detailed description of the deformation mechanism. Validation of the numerical model developed was based on an experimental test. The deformation stability of the usual honeycomb structure is demonstrated by the adjustment of the structure's ligaments.
