ETSI UCAAT 2023: ETSI User Conference on Advanced Automated Testing 2023 Timisoara Polytechnic University Timisoara, Romania, November 14-16, 2023

The annual ETSI User Conference on Advanced Automated Testing (UCAAT) is the most important date in the calendar of ETSI’s Technical Committee Methods for Testing and Specification (TC MTS). Rapid technical advances in application areas such as information and communication technology, industrial automation, transportation (automotive, avionics, rail), enterprise information technology, healthcare, cybersecurity, and biotechnology, as well as shifting operational landscapes such as DevOps practices and machine learning techniques applied to software development are ever increasing the demands on testing.

Submission Guidelines

UCAAT 2023 is currently calling for:

• Proposals for 20-minute conference presentations (including questions)

• Posters focusing on upcoming trends and practical aspects of testing,

• 90 or 180 minute tutorials (presentations and/or hands-on workshops).

Your proposal should be submitted in PDF format via Easychair by 8 May 2023, using the following templates:

• Template for Presentation/poster proposal

Submissions should not exceed three A4 pages.

Submissions should seek to deliver a message for a broader user community of test professionals, reporting on experiences with testing technologies, rather than focusing on tooling details.

The UCAAT Programme Committee will evaluate all proposals and select the best proposals matching the event’s objectives.

The authors of accepted contributions will be notified by 29 May 2023.

The UCAAT 2023 theme is focused on maximizing the benefits and outcomes of automated testing. The complexity of modern software and telecommunication systems is constantly increasing. The intersection with AI and machine learning technologies is delivering to users unprecedented experiences in all areas (business, entertainment, etc.)

Conference Theme: Optimizing the value of automated testing

Users' expectations on the quality of software, products and services is increasing as well, making effective and efficient testing more and more important overall, but at the same time also more challenging to perform and manage. Identifying the best techniques, processes and practices to improve and optimize how systems are tested can give a competitive advantage and can even make the difference between the success and failure of a product or service. Emphasizing the role of collaboration between development and testing teams in maximizing the benefits of automated testing can lead to better results and effective communication with a shared understanding of testing goals and processes.

That is why UCAAT 2023 aims at discussing all aspects of optimizing the value of automated testing of software enabled systems.

Topics of Interest for submission to UCAAT 2023 

For this year’s UCAAT, the programme committee is looking for submissions addressing (but not limited to) the following topics:

• Best practices for implementing automated testing in different application domains

• Measuring the ROI (Return On Investment) and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) of automated testing initiatives

• Automation and optimization of test related activities in continuous integration, delivery, and deployment workflows

• User experiences on measuring test team objectives, outcomes and how to bring values with automated testing to the end users

• Optimization of test processes and test management

  • Test management and prioritization

  • Efficient and effective testing processes, for instance TDD (Test-Driven Development) and BDD (Behavior-Driven Development)

  • Automated test suite management, maintenance and rework

• Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in automated testing as well as testing AI and ML systems

• Experience and advances in standardized test specification languages and methodologies

  • TDL (Test Description Language)

  • Other DSLs (Domain Specific Languages)

• Use of digital twins and virtual commissioning test automation solutions

• New approaches for the design of automated test frameworks
