The Academic Committee invites researchers in Didactics of Biology/Biology Education to participate in the 15th Conference of European Researchers in Didactics of Biology (ERIDOB 2026), ERIDOB aims to bring together researchers in didactics of Biology from around the world to share and discuss their research work and results.
The title of the conference is Biology Education Paving the Way for Our Common Future. The conference welcomes submissions in all pertinent areas of biology education research and practice that advance a better future for everyone.
Contributions should fit into one or two of the following strands within Biology Education:
- Sustainability Education (including Environmental and Health Education)
- Outdoor and Informal Education
- Scientific Thinking, Scientific Explanations, Scientific Inquiry and NOS
- Socioscientific Issues (including Social, Cultural, and Diversity Issues)
- Students’ Conceptions and Conceptual Change
- Students’ Values, Attitudes and Decision-Making
- Teaching Strategies, Learning Environments and Digital Media
- Writing, Speaking, Reading and Argumentation
- Teacher Professionalization and PCK
Submission Guidelines
Proposals will be reviewed under the following criteria:
• Research: Is the proposal concerned with research in biology education?
• Subject / problem: What is the research problem or question? What is the rationale for the study? What is the theoretical framework?
• Design and methodology: What is the design of the study? Are the research methods clearly described and appropriate?
• Data analysis and findings: Are the data clearly presented? Is there consistency between data and findings?
• General interest: Is the contribution of interest to European researchers in the field.
Posters
Proposals for a poster contribution should include the following:
1. Metadata: Title and abstract (250 words maximum), type of presentation (poster), preferred strand, keywords (5 maximum),2. Author(s) information3. File: An anonymized pdf file including: title, preferred strand, theoretical background or rationale, key objectives, research design and methodology, findings, conclusions and reference list (1000 words maximum)
Posters should be printed on paper in portrait format and should not exceed 84 cm in width and 118 cm in height (A0 poster will fit perfectly). Please make sure there are eyelets or small holes into the four corners of the poster so that the poster can be attached to a poster display wall which consists of a grid made from wire. Material for placing posters will be available in poster areas. Before the traditional walkaround poster presentation, you will be asked to present your poster in 3 minutes (maximum) for the audience as a whole. There is the option to present the poster with the aid slides (a maximum of two slides, preferably as a pdf file but this should also be . ppt).). The slides are optional.
Oral presentations
Proposals for an oral contribution should include the following:
1. Metadata: Title and abstract (250 words maximum), type of presentation (oral), preferred strand, keywords (5 maximum), comment (if you want to suggest a new strand)2. Author(s) information3. File: An anonymized pdf file including: title, preferred strand, theoretical background or rationale, key objectives, research design and methodology, findings, conclusions and reference list (1000 words maximum)
Oral presentations should be a maximum of 15 minutes long, followed by 5 minutes for questions and/or discussion. Computers and video projectors will be available in all conference rooms. We recommend that you bring your presentation on a memory USB stick and upload it before the session starts, preferably as a pdf file (but this should also be . ppt).
Symposia
Proposals for a symposium should include the following:
1. Metadata: Title of symposium and abstract stating the aims and purposes of the symposium as well as the connections between the papers (400 words), type of presentation (symposium), preferred strand, keywords (5 maximum),2. Author(s) information3. File: The list of the titles & abstracts of the oral communications.
Symposia follow the same procedure as the oral presentations. Note that the number of participants might differ between symposia and there might be more time available for discussion at some symposia. The chair of the symposia is responsible for the timing of the presentations. She or he will tell you the length of the oral presentations and the length of the discussion.
The standards, in terms of quality, will be the same for oral and poster presentations. The following criteria will be applied:
POSTER PRESENTATIONS
• Work may be under development.• Findings may be tentative or not yet available.•. Content should be of high interest and/or relevance.• Specific content should not have been presented or published elsewhere.
ORAL PRESENTATIONS (including a presentation in a symposium)
• Work to be presented should be reaching completion or be complete and well thought through.• Data should be available.• Content should be of high interest and/or relevance.• Specific content should not have been presented or published elsewhere.
Some important rules to keep in mind
- No participant may submit more than one first-authored paper. The first author is assumed to present the paper unless otherwise stated.
- No participant may present more than once during the conference.
- The first authors/contact persons of accepted proposals will receive the ERIDOB conference guidelines for papers and the registration form.
- Please note that only proposals that on the moment of submission have not been published elsewhere are eligible. The academic committee must be notified if a paper submitted to the conference has also been submitted or accepted for publication elsewhere.
- The conference language is English.

Venue
The venue of the conference will be in two very close facilities.
The University of Ljubljana is the central and largest educational and research institution in Slovenia. It is renowned for its quality social and natural sciences and technical study programmes. The University of Ljubljana has been listed in the 501-600 group by the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU); listed in the 801-1000 group in the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, and placed 596th in the Quacquarelli Symonds ranking.
The Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana educates and trains teachers and other education professionals—from preschool and primary teachers to two‐subject teachers in primary and secondary schools—enhancing their employability and meeting school‐practice needs. As Slovenia’s biggest institution offering specialist programmes in inclusive education and the education of children and youth with special needs, it provides social pedagogy and special and rehabilitation pedagogy courses that address behavioural and social difficulties, sensory and physical impairments, and learning challenges. The Faculty offers seven first-cycle (BA/BSc) and twelve second-cycle (MA/MSc) study programmes and, since 2009/10, a doctoral programme in Teacher Education and Educational Sciences divided into its two scientific foci.
