What is the conference about?
Are you working with the human voice and/or various approaches to the study of voice(s)? If so, we would like to invite you to join us at the 2023 Aarhus International Conference on Voice Studies, hosted by the Centre for Voice Studies at Aarhus University. The conference provides a unique opportunity to share the results of recent and innovative research into what different vocal qualities are perceived to express or reveal about the speaker, emerging from a wide range of academic disciplines.
Some broad areas of research could include:
- the signalling qualities of voices
- use of voice in portrayal of fictional characters
- the representation of voices and speakers in different media, such as film or video games
- positive and negative trait assessment of vocal variation
- sociobiologically conditioned vocal variation
- different cultural or theoretical perspectives on the voice as an expressive organ
In general, we are open to a vast array of presentation topics within voice studies, media studies, linguistics, gender studies, and more. We are especially interested in interdisciplinary approaches to voice studies.
Depending on the interest, we anticipate peer-reviewed conference proceedings.
