CALL FOR POSTERS
The Mind and Matter profiling action of the University of Helsinki and the Academy of Finland (2019-2024) is an interdisciplinary research programme that explores the question of the mind and its relation with matter under the three research areas of intelligence, consciousness, and information.
The Mind and Matter 2023 conference will take place in Helsinki on 6-8 June 2023. The conference is structured around five keynote sessions with talks from international experts on the themes of
- Minds with Language,
- Dreaming and Consciousness,
- Motivation and Cognitive Control,
- Crossdisciplinary Influences in the Study of the Mind, and
- Perception.
The keynotes will be complemented by a poster session on 7 June 2023.
We invite submissions of abstracts for posters from any discipline engaged in studying the nature of the mind, the brain and/or the relationship between them. Abstracts should be written for a multi-disciplinary audience.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- The advantages and disadvantages of the multidisciplinary approach in mind research
- Philosophy of (cognitive) neuroscience
- How does the brain support cognition and consciousness
- Perception, sensation and content
- Perceptual mechanisms – neurological, physiological and cognitive
- How does language affect the mind
- Computational models of the mind
- Sleeping and dreaming
- The role of predictive processing in cognitive performance
- Perceptual control as a foundation of cognition
- Learning to perform cognitively demanding tasks
- Inference and reinforcement in ecological learning
- Statistical learning
- Mental representations
- Phenomenology
- Embodied, embedded, enacted, extended minds
Abstracts of 200-300 words (excluding references) should be submitted at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mm2023. The deadline for submissions is 28 February 2023 (23:59 EET). Submissions should be anonymised.
Applicants will be informed of the outcome of submissions at the end of March. All posters presented at the conference will be reviewed as part of a poster competition, in which the best three posters will be selected.
