Commit2Data – Big Data Analytics and Applications
Commit2Data is the Dutch research & innovation program on the topic of big data analytics and applications. The program encompasses three lines of operation: research, the valorization of research results, and dissemination. The program’s research and valorization activities are explicitly application-oriented and based on and financed by public-private cooperation.
We intend to publish a book on the state of the projects of the Commit2Data program, and therefore invite all project consortia to submit papers. Instead of focusing on specific and detailed project results, we invite all projects to submit papers that address the overall project and cooperation between the partners, the application that inspired the project, and an overview of the key results obtained (so far). Also, learnings about the cooperation and about avenues to valorization (from within the project) are most welcome.
We also invite research consortia (outside of Commit2data) to submit their papers, as long as (i) they are public-privately funded; (ii) focus on big data analytics and applications; (iii) have active involvement of both academic and public partners. To acquire a sense of what a typical Commit2Data project looks like, please visit the Commit2Data projects site.
Submission Guidelines
Publisher. We are extremely happy that we have secured Schloss DagStuhl as publisher, in particular, its Open Access Series in Informatics (OASIcs). The articles in this series are indexed by ISI Web of Science, Scopus, ACM Digital Library, dblp, Google Scholar.
Format and requirements. We request program consortia to submit one paper per project, addressing the following 5 elements in the paper. Note that these 5 elements listed here, do not necessarily have to be addressed in this order, or in separate sections. However, we would like these elements to be present in the papers, as they learn us, next to the technical learnings, about how public-private partnerships work in practice.
- Introduction + project overview: Please give a short (almost layman) introduction to the project, and describe the origin of the project. Address how the research questions came about within the context of the consortium. Also the motivation of the participants, especially the public partners, to take part in this project are of interest.
- Problem addressed (technical as well as application-oriented): The projects in Commit2Data all have a strong data component, but also a strong sectoral application (like energy, sport, logistics, etc.). Elaborate about the research questions and the approach taken, both from a purely technical/scientific perspective, but also from an application perspective. If possible, also address the potential (other) application areas and the broader way in which application may impact society.
- Project consortium, structure and way-of-working/cooperation: Explain how the parties within the research consortium cooperate. What roles do they play during the different phases of the project? Did they help define the research questions? Do they provide data? Are they involved in the research itself? Do they provide an application testbed?
- Key results: Describe the findings obtained (so far). Off course this is about scientific results, but also about the meaning of those results in the application context. Results on the way of cooperation itself or societal implications are welcome as well.
- Further steps/prospects: What prospects do you see for the results you found. Does it need additional research or practical explorations of additional sector applications? Or maybe just a good engineer to make the results into a marketable application? Have you been active with valorization?
Authors can consult Dagstuhl’s authors’ guidelines where the OASics LaTeX templates can be downloaded. Submitted papers must not exceed 15 pages, with an additional 5 pages for references and appendices. Papers must be unpublished and not be submitted for publication elsewhere. The Dagstuhl OASIcs processing charge (€60 only) will be covered by the Commit2Data program.
Next to the paper, once accepted, we ask the consortia to prepare a (max.) three-minute video-pitch, that allows us to build an attractive multi-media portal to the contents of the book, and enables us to reach a larger audience than the typical academic audience. This multi-media portal will be available through the Commit2data website, from which also direct links to the (open access) papers will be provided, and will be launched at a suitable national event in the Netherlands, thus enabling an online mini-conference experience. Instructions and support for the video-pitch will follow later.
Submission and reviewing. Papers should be submitted electronically using EasyChair in pdf format. Authors of submitted papers are expected to help in the (blind) peer-review process. All original submitted papers will be evaluated by at least three reviewers on the basis of their technical quality, scientific and practical contribution to the state of the art, methodology, clarity, and adequacy of references.
